Hello members new and all,

I can totally understand any disenchantment you all may be feeling: I too was disappointed that we haven't had any screenings yet but as of 5pm today, Wednesday 3rd March 2010, we are now officially affiliated with ANUSA. I have contacted the appropriate person to book Manning Clarke Theatre 3 for this Friday night starting at 5 pm and am awaiting confirmation.. This should be confirmed tomorrow, and I'll call them if I don't receive notification by noon tomorrow (Thursday) will post confirmation as soon as possible. However I feel confidant that screenings will go ahead this Friday evening so please turn up unless the website states otherwise.

On that apologetic note I think it suitable that we have our first Pizza Night next week to make up for the shambles that occurred last week. More about that soon.

For those who don't know who I am I'm the mumsy one that signed you up on Market Day!

Hope to see all of you

Suzanne Francis, Treasurer

Okay, so what has happened appears as such. The Student Association(SA) in previous years has been super lax - basically you only had an issue with being non-affiliated if you needed insurance coverage for whatever reason (I.e. Nara Candle Festival) so for many and varied reasons over the years some aspects of the societies obligations were not entirely met. These aspects included things such as accurate book keeping and minutes at meetings.

Now this year due to some societies apparently only turning up for market day then buggering off the student association has tightened regulations so that no society that is not affiliated can book a room for whatever reason at the ANU. Now given this the current executives (esp. Sue our current Treasurer) have been collectively attempting to get the ANU Anime Society up to scratch (regulation wise) for most of the last year with much success. We however still have a few issues to iron out.

This said we are in talks with the SA and Sue will be presenting our case at one of their meeting s tomorrow afternoon with the hopes of garnering some time to finish tying up loose ends. We hope to receive a letter from the SA to give to the bookings co-ordinators that should hopefully allow us to hold screenings once again.

This said we are currently stuck in a bit of a "catch 22" as we lack accurate AGM minutes/records of members present etc from last year we need to hold another 'proper' AGM in order to acquire acceptable notes for submission and this needless to say means we need a room booking which we can't have until we are affiliated.

So ultimately we're trying the best we can - Its an unfortunate situation that has taken several years to accumulate and I hope to have some good news very shortly.

The yearly AGM (Annual General Meeting) has been announced for Friday the 19th of March. All members interested in how the society is run, voting for candidates, suggesting ideas and possibly running for positions are requested to turn up by 5:30pm.

NB: Dates may alter slightly if we can't get a room.

The new ANUAS website is only awaiting templating now so all going well it should be replacing the current one quite shortly.

There is no screening tonight at this point due to being unable to book a theatre. If I hear of any changes from this I'll update this spot.

For those of you waiting for news on the beginning of regular screenings;

A request has been sent to venue hire, but they have yet to respond. Hopefully we'll get a "yes" or "no" by friday. It's also likely that we'll have a non-regular screening to begin the year, since it's looking like a bit of a mess at the moment.

Refresh regularly for further updates.
